What do we translate?

We translate any document produced during the patent granting procedure, from filing an application to granting of a patent, as well as those produced during opposition and litigation. Thus, we provide

How do we work?

Following the signing of a non-disclosure agreement, we process your document according to the scheme below, such that the document is made ready-to-submit to the relevant authority. Including the processing of any drawings, this means that we adapt your document to the formal requirements of the relevant authority.

What kind of software and technologies do we use?

Due to the fact that time is one of the independent variables in translation services, its efficient use is not beneficial for the service provider only, but also for the one who purchases the service, in one way or another.

With this fact in mind, we have always kept up with the cutting edge software and technologies to combine with patent translations, some of which are given below for information purposes only:

• Adobe Creative Cloud and Corel, OpenSCAD and LibreCAD for graphical editing and drawing,

• Microsoft 365 for general purposes,

What is our perspective on patent translation?

Apart from misspelling or typing errors in translation, which may actually have huge impacts on the outcome of a patent application and may change the protection scope of a subject matter, there are other challenges a translator encounters while translating a patent application.

More precisely, concerning the fact that one word can have a variety of meanings depending on the context it is used, having knowledge of the respective context becomes crucial in landing at the right place. In terms of translation, this does not apply to the original language only, but also to the target language(s). Hence, an accurate translation of a word or a set of words between two languages selects the correct match between their contextual meanings.

But how if one of the languages lacks such a word or even such a context, as it is frequently encountered in science and technology? Well, this is one of the challenges a translator faces typically when translating patent applications, assuming that they provide novelty and involve an inventive step, which can have novel and inventive designations and definitions accordingly.

Another linguistic challenge encountered in patent applications describing a subject matter is the inherent intention to keep its description as broad as possible and to avoid the use of precise and intuitive terms, in contrast to scientific papers, for instance, which aim to be as precise as possible. As mentioned above, this sometimes leads to some "novel" and "inventive" terms, which, not to speak of using specialized dictionaries, do not yield any query results in search engines except the document itself that contains such terms.

Never forgetting that an incorrect translation of a patent application filed under an international patent system such as EPC or PCT can change its protection scope, or even can result in its revocation in a contracting state, we handle each and every project with due diligence to provide an accurate and acceptable translation. As referred to above, especially for novel or rare subjects matters and their components, this requires a challenging effort on the part of translator in terms of searching various databases and/or asking the opinion of a person skilled in the relevant art, as we have always done so far.

Finally, keeping in mind that all stages of a patenting process, including the submission of translations, are subjected to time constraints, we strictly adhere to the deadlines of all projects undertaken by our team.

What advantages do we offer?

Specialist translation

Your document will be assigned to a translator according to its subject matter. This guarantees that your document is translated by a translator who has an educational background in the field of translation, or is at least capable to understand the subject-matter.

Cost reduction

Thanks to computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, you will only be charged for the content of a document which is to be translated. This means that any repetitions in a document, or any 100% matches from the translation memory assigned to you will not be charged. This makes sense particularly for high-volume patent applications of the same proprietor, in which some sections are identical among many successive patent applications.

Additionally, being served directly by a translation provider will eventually reduce your patent translation costs.

Non-anonymous translators

You will be served by the same translator or translators. This means that you will not be served by anonymous translators, since it is not our preference to work with one-time translators.

Consistent translation

You will have consistent translations by virtue of our translation memories and termbases composed of our work dating back to 1997.

Ready for submission

Your patent application, including the figures, if any, is delivered in the format required by the authority for submission.

Our drawbacks?

Limited output

Since, in our opinion, translation is not an activity which can be subjected to mass production, we always keep our work at a manageable volume and do not sacrifice quality to increase production. This naturally limits our output.

No 'all languages' service

We are not providing services in all languages, but only in German, English and Turkish to keep our work under full control.

No filing service

We are involved only in the production of patent applications and are not part of the patenting phase. In other words, we are not patent attorneys to have your applications validated in Turkey, but upon your request, we can build a bridge between you and our associate patent attorneys so that you can get services for the national phase in Turkey and have your application validated through a single contact person.
